Puthandu, populary known as Varsha pirappu, is the New Year's Day for the people of Tamil Nadu in Southern India. It marks the beginning of the Dravidian New Year in Tamil Nadu. This festival is held on the first day of Tamil month Chithiram, which usually falls on the 14th of April.

Sri Rama Navami is a Hindu festival celebrated throughout India. This festival is the celebration of the Birth Day of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It falls on the ninth day of of Shukla Paksha in the month of Chaitra, which is during March-April. This year (2008) Sri Rama Navami festival is celebrated on the 13th of April in the southern part of India.

Akshaya Tritiya is a widely celebrated Hindu festival in India. In South India, this auspicious festival is celebrated with great faith and purchasing gold, to bring success and prosperity. It is considered as an auspicious day to start any new venture, purchase valuables etc.

Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is celebrated all over India. In Maharashtra Ganesh Chaturthi is the major festival of the people. In South India, it is celebrated with great fervor and excitement, especially in the states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. During this festival, thousands of clay idols of Lord Ganesha are made in every size, pose, form and colour.
